Novità importanti per chi ha il pre-settled status nel Regno Unito

Oggi il Parlamento britannico ha annunciato una modifica fondamentale alle regole sull’immigrazione, accolta con favore dall’Independent Monitoring Authority (IMA).
Il cambiamento riguarda le assenze dal Regno Unito e la possibilità per i cittadini europei con pre-settled status di accedere più facilmente allo settled status.

🔄 Cosa cambia esattamente?

Fino ad ora, chi aveva il pre-settled status doveva risiedere continuativamente nel Regno Unito – ovvero essere presente almeno sei mesi ogni anno per cinque anni – per ottenere lo settled status.
Assenze più lunghe rischiavano di interrompere questo percorso, creando difficoltà anche a chi aveva passato la maggior parte del tempo nel paese.

📅 Dal 16 luglio 2025, sarà sufficiente aver vissuto almeno 30 mesi complessivi (due anni e mezzo) nel Regno Unito nei precedenti cinque anni per essere considerati idonei a fare richiesta dello settled status, anche in presenza di assenze prolungate.

🔍 A chi si applica?

  • A chi ha già ottenuto il pre-settled status e farà in futuro richiesta per ottenere lo settled.
  • A chi rientrerà nei futuri processi di conversione automatica da pre-settled a settled.
  • Non riguarda invece chi fa domanda per la prima volta per l’EU Settlement Scheme.

💬 Secondo l’IMA, questa modifica permetterà a molti più cittadini europei di ottenere la residenza permanente nel Regno Unito, anche se hanno avuto assenze importanti in passato.
Il monitoraggio da parte delle autorità indipendenti continuerà, per assicurare il pieno rispetto dei diritti dei cittadini previsti dagli accordi post-Brexit.
